"My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated television series that premiered on October 10, 2010, on the United States cable network The Hub.Hasbro Studios and DHX Media's animation studio in Vancouver (formerly known as Studio B Productions) produce the series, which is based on Hasbro, Inc's My Little Pony line of toys and animated works. ...
The show follows a studious unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle as her mentor Princess Celestia guides her to learn about friendship in the town of Ponyville. Twilight becomes close friends with five other ponies: Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie. Each represents a different face of friendship, and discovers herself to be a key part of the "Elements of Harmony". The ponies share adventures and help out other residents of Ponyville, while working out the troublesome moments in their own friendships." - Wikipedia

Hey lacquerheads!

Here's another show-inspired nail art - My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Most of you might like this post. Less words, more visuals. I grew up watching the original animated series on TV back in the 80's, and had a few of the toys and merchandise. Being a typical little girly girl, the sweet, cute, positive and magical world of MLP was instantly a hit with me.

Fast forward (too) many years later, a nail polish collection by Rainbow Honey (inspired by the latest series), an indie polish/ cosmetics brand, was an instant attraction for me. That's putting it mildly actually; I'm head over heels for this new (yet to be released) collection! Check it out here!

So word is, the winners of this Blogger Nail Art Contest held by Rainbow Honey will receive polishes from this collection, ahead of the release! And I want them SOOOO badly! I hope you'll like my "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" inspired nail art enough to help me garner votes on their Facebook page or blog on 16th May, 2012 (details at the end of the post).

I'm quite nervous yet excited about this first attempt at a nail art contest, so here we go!

MLP Rarity Inspired Nail ArtI should have used a pale, dove grey, or even white. But it was originally intended for another idea, but I was out of time to redo the entire nail.

And yes, Twilight Sparkle is missing from this batch. Wish I had a sixth finger (then again, not). Plus, she's the main protagonist of the show. Here's a promise: if I win this contest, I'll do a full mani/ nail art inspired by Twilight Sparkle! Pinkie promise ;)

Greetings lovelies! I'm currently on a very short mid-week breather from work, and blogging live from Changi resort (think it's called the Seaview Chalet).

Changi Resort Seaview Chalet, Singapore

On my nails today (and for the past 3 days) are 2 untrieds which were stashed so far back, I forgot about them! Locavore is my first ever Rescue Beauty Lounge polish, which I got off Susan from The Subtle Shimmer as she had a spare. But I couldn't recall the colour. So when I took it out from the box, I was wowed by it again. I didn't want a full coat of glitter (or 2), so I dug further for a base colour to pair it with, and found Paul & Joe 015 aka Venus.

Paul & Joe 015 VenusOn the packaging, there is no indication of a name, just a numbered code - 015. But further online searches reveal its name - Venus. Venus is a sky blue creme infused with silver micro glitter, and some irisdecent specks that subtly flash blue, green and pale gold at different angles in the bottle.

Paul & Joe 015 VenusThe bottle's shape faintly resembles a soft heart, slim with rounded sides. It's comfortable in the hands with a straightforward twist cap that reveals the brush.

Paul & Joe vs OPI brushI do love the brush! Though not as flat and smooth as OPI's, it's wide enough to get the polish on a nail in 3 strokes.

I liked that it is not just a flat creme sky blue, but the sparkles are not in-your-face.Paul & Joe 015 Venus2 coats to opacity, with no major issues with the formula. Seen here without a top coat, under indoor lighting at night.

Next up, RBL's Locavore.
Rescue Beauty Lounge LocavoreIt's a dense mix of blue, fuchsia, gold and mostly small olive green hex glitters in a clear base. I have a thing for square-shaped bottles (think butter LONDON), though not my favourite when it comes to holding or rolling them. They just seem so chic, IMO. I also like the material of RBL's cap; very solid and steely looking.

Rescue Beauty Lounge LocavoreUpclose: Rescue Beauty Lounge Locavore in the bottle.

What you see as purple onscreen is actually fuchsia in real life.

RBL vs OPI brushBrush-wise, though not on par with OPI's (right), is manageable, ie. better than Essie's (sorry guys, but I'm not going to quit about Essie's brush anytime soon).

Altogether now...

RBL Locavore over Paul & Joe 015 Venus2 coats of Locavore closer to the cuticles, in glitter gradient style, over 2 coats of Venus and 1 coat of Poshe Super-Fast Dry Top Coat. Indoors under daylight.

RBL Locavore over Paul & Joe 015 VenusAnother shot: Indoors, under natural daylight.

RBL Locavore over Paul & Joe 015 VenusUpclose: Locavore over Venus, with 1 coat of Poshe Super-Fast Drying Top Coat. Indoors, white light.

RBL Locavore over Paul & Joe 015 VenusIndoors, white light at night.

RBL Locavore over Paul & Joe 015 VenusIndoor lighting, at night. Taken with iPhone 4S.

The combination turned out looking pretty, and it's so spring-appropriate (not that it matters in a climate like Singapore's)! The best satisfaction was receiving compliments from people beyond the nail community ♥
4 days on and still no chips (though I strongly believe it's Nail Tek Foundation III and Poshe Super-Fast Drying Top Coat hard at work).

And to end this post, a parting shot:

'The Avengers' Inspired Mani

The Avengers, 2012 Movie
"The Avengers is a 2012 American superhero filmproduced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was scripted and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble castthat includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, andSamuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to form a team. The group must stop Thor's brother Loki from destroying Earth." - Wikipedia

A hearty hello lovelies!

I was extremely excited to watch The Avengers on Tuesday, 1st May. It was a Labour Day holiday, a much-needed break from the humdrums of work and chores. Plus, the pass was complimentary!
It was decided among some friends that this would be the most anticipated movie for the first half of 2012. It was worth the hype. And with Joss Whedon at the helm...I mean... creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series!

In my excitement, I dabbled with a bit of nail art for this movie-inspired mani for the outting, but wanted something subtle.

The Avengers nail artOn the thumb & index: 2 coats, Essie Armed And Ready
I thought the name and colour went well with the essence of the movie. Deep, murky, combat green with bronze-y shimmer peeking through. The formula was smooth, and the 2nd coat was enough for n opaque and even finish.
Peeve: The bronze shimmer hardly shows through on the nail like it does so evidently in the bottle. Very strong lighting is required for any hint of the shimmer.

Essie Armed And ReadyAnd the brush... oh my gosh, Essie! Please do something about the aneroxic brush already.

On the middle, ring and pinky: 2 coats, China Glaze Haunting
Silver micro glitter suspended in a black creme base. The glitter is not in-your-face, but just enough sparkle to make the black background for this mani a little less flat. 2 coats to opacity, no issues with streaks or goopiness.

The Avengers LogoSource

The Avengers nail artThe Logo on the ring finger: sponged on the grey, a blend of OPI Black Onyx and Alpine Snow.
The Avengers logo was drawn with a nail art brush from Daiso, Tried to outline with Alpine Snow so it resembles the actual logo as much as possible, but it was getting all over the place, so I stopped.
All nails finished with 1 coat of Poshe Fast Drying Top Coat.

Just this short post for today. One more sleep till Friday. Hooray!
